Check it out, I’ve upgraded to a newer & better photo gallery for showcasing some of the Rickey Henderson stuff I have/had. You can add comments and also easily share the pics on facebook, twitter, or pretty much wherever.
This is a 1995 Upper Deck SP “Silver” #182 RICKEY HENDERSON card graded PSA 9 mint, but the PSA label doesn’t say “Silver” on it.
i watched it on ESPN last night after the home run derby.. Rickey Henderson hit a lead-off home run off Jennie Finch.. MC Hammer also got a homer. I actually didnt watch the whole game, i guess the home run derby went longer than expected and my DVR only got the first couple innings of the softball game.
Well, it’s not really much of a variation, but still, I noticed it awhile back when I was going through my stuff, and put the cards aside and have been meaning to do a blog post about them but haven’t until now..
The “variation” is just a small black print dot, but it matches exactly on two of my cards, and doesn’t appear at all on the third. It’s in the same exact spot on the two cards it appears on. (Click the photos below for a larger view)
A few years ago I noticed a similar variation on 1968 Topps #385 Jim Catfish Hunter cards, with a print dot at the top border of each card except the first one in the scan below. Not a big deal as far as variations go, but I thought it was interesting. (Click the photos for a larger view)
These cards are from my personal collection. I’ve decided to put my PSA graded cards up for sale because I have other things going on in life that I could use the money for…HOWEVER, I’m not desperate to sell them. Some people might think my prices are high…whatever… I really haven’t kept up with what Rickey PSA cards are selling for and it’s sort of fine with me if they never sell because although I could use money, I’m still a big fan.
I had the cards listed on eBay for awhile as fixed price listings, but decided to put them here on my blog to save eBay fees. CLICK HERE to view the cards I currently have for sale, or click the “products page” link on the right-hand side of the page. Please let me know if you notice something isn’t working correctly.

… that I haven’t gone through in several years. The sketch (photo below) was done in 1992 by a young artist named Justin Murphy, who at the time was writing and drawing a comic book called Southern Blood. I was 15 years old at the time and was fortunate enough to be able to work at a comic book & hobby store where Justin was signing autographs and promoting his comic book, and somehow I managed to talk him into drawing me a sketch of Rickey Henderson.
I don’t think Justin was a sports fan, and he probably didn’t really know much about Rickey Henderson. I had him draw the sketch quickly by looking at a baseball card, so I’m sure the sketch can be critiqued by Rickey Henderson fans, but I think it’s good, there is no mistaking who the sketch is portraying. I like the drawing and it takes me back to a good time in life, working at a comic book and sports card shop!
As for Justin Murphy, he has continued to be successful, and he still draws and writes. Here is a link to one of his latest projects, a graphic novel titled Cleburne, a controversial and true story of Irish immigrant and Confederate General Patrick Cleburne and his plan to enlist slaves to fight for the South during the American Civil War. Check it out!
i didnt even know he was in the set, but after my previous 2010 Topps post, i saw this post on the CU Forums and noticed Rickey’s name in the list.. i looked on ebay and saw several different 2010 Topps Rickey Henderson cards..
and i want them..
well, maybe not the “patch logo” cards, but the others I see on ebay are pretty awesome looking..
