just bought my first Beckett Magazine since…probably 3 or 4 years ago.

Beckett Baseball

I just really haven’t had the need for one, and this one was found at a flea market for 50 cents. I guess it’s a couple months old is why the guy was selling it. Fine with me, it’s the March 2010 issue, new enough for me – I just wanted to flip through the pages for nostalgic purposes, because I remember from around 1990-1995, I couldn’t wait for each months Beckett to come out so I could read it from cover to cover.

Some thoughts from this one:

Still has pretty good articles. I’m just not very into the modern cards and players. I like pre-1996 stuff or at least sets with pre-1996 players. I honestly had no idea who Bryce Harper was until now. Credit to Beckett for putting me in the know. Maybe I should start reading card forums again on a regular basis.

The “Topps Unique” Bat Knob set looks cool, but I don’t think I’ll be buying any.

They still have a “Hot List”…that’s cool…and Andre Dawsons rookie is ranked #10 on the hot list..that’s cool too.

A great buy for just 50 cents. If I were more into modern stuff, maybe I’d buy one more often…and maybe one day I will get into more modern stuff.

some PSA graded cards for sale here..

These cards are from my personal collection. I’ve decided to put my PSA graded cards up for sale because I have other things going on in life that I could use the money for…HOWEVER, I’m not desperate to sell them. Some people might think my prices are high…whatever… I really haven’t kept up with what Rickey PSA cards are selling for and it’s sort of fine with me if they never sell because although I could use money, I’m still a big fan.

I had the cards listed on eBay for awhile as fixed price listings, but decided to put them here on my blog to save eBay fees. CLICK HERE to view the cards I currently have for sale, or click the “products page” link on the right-hand side of the page. Please let me know if you notice something isn’t working correctly.

I Found This Rickey Henderson Sketch In A Box Of Stuff…

… that I haven’t gone through in several years. The sketch (photo below) was done in 1992 by a young artist named Justin Murphy, who at the time was writing and drawing a comic book called Southern Blood. I was 15 years old at the time and was fortunate enough to be able to work at a comic book & hobby store where Justin was signing autographs and promoting his comic book, and somehow I managed to talk him into drawing me a sketch of Rickey Henderson. :)

I don’t think Justin was a sports fan, and he probably didn’t really know much about Rickey Henderson. I had him draw the sketch quickly by looking at a baseball card, so I’m sure the sketch can be critiqued by Rickey Henderson fans, but I think it’s good, there is no mistaking who the sketch is portraying. I like the drawing and it takes me back to a good time in life, working at a comic book and sports card shop!

As for Justin Murphy, he has continued to be successful, and he still draws and writes. Here is a link to one of his latest projects, a graphic novel titled Cleburne, a controversial and true story of Irish immigrant and Confederate General Patrick Cleburne and his plan to enlist slaves to fight for the South during the American Civil War. Check it out!
